Conversions

Converting recipes from imperial to metric in recipes drives me nuts because most of us here in Canada (of my generation)  probably know cups over millilitres but don’t know ounces over grams or millilitres. I never know how you deal with liquid and dry measurements in ounces. Why isn’t everything in cups? Anyway, I have conversion charts in my cookbooks but I prefer having things in one place on my computer instead. Right now, my obsession is Nutella so I wanted to know if I needed the big or small jar for a few recipes. Or more truthfully, if I ate too much out of the big jar. Obviously I’ve eaten too much -it’s Nutella we’re talking about – but do I have enough left to make that icing?

Nutella Conversions

Small jar is 13 ounces = 385ml, 368g, 1.6 cups

Big jar is 26.5 ounces = 783ml,  751g, 3.3 cups

Ingredient Equivalents

Do you need to know how many teaspoons of dried herbs to substitute for fresh, or how many apples to buy when a recipe calls for 1 cup of sliced apple? Use this handy chart to help you convert or adjust foods for your favorite recipes.

  1. I am baking with Nutella for the first time and would like an exact conversion of 480 grams to cups. The recipe has only 2 ingredients so I need to be fairly exact. Thanks for your help!

  2. Hi, I like your charts. If I buy an 8 gram package of dried herbs how many teaspoons will I get?
